Visitors to Cannock Chase can now enjoy sightseeing from a new and improved viewing platform on Brindley Heath, installed as the latest landmark in an ambitious trail improvement scheme.
Supported by Sport England National Lottery funding, the Cannock Chase Wayfinding Project is a partnership between Staffordshire County Council, Together Active and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles.
The project aims to make the Chase more accessible and easier for local communities to enjoy, encouraging people to get active outdoors, connect with nature, and explore this beautiful National Landscape on their doorstep.
The new viewing platform overlooks Brindley Heath and will soon be joined by a resurfaced trail leading from Camp Field car park, a new half-mile circular path, and a series of artist-designed benches on a walking route from Hednesford.
Created with input from 250 local residents, the benches will feature designs that celebrate the area’s rich history, share wellbeing tips, and highlight local wildlife. Each includes a QR code offering digital stories and insights about the landscape.
Hayley Coles, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, said:
“It’s fantastic to see this new viewing point taking shape as part of such a positive community project. The benches, decorated with artwork and stories from local residents, really capture the spirit of Cannock Chase.
“We’re proud to be working with our partners to create spaces where everyone can relax, reflect, and enjoy the stunning scenery and heritage of the Chase. I look forward to celebrating the project when it’s done.”
Chloe King, Project and Relationship Manager, Sport England, said:
“This is a wonderful project, designed by the local community to make access to the natural environment more accessible for everyone, creating opportunities for people to be active, connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors together.”
The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2026.
