Free parking all day on Saturdays in the run up to Christmas in Stafford and Stone gets underway this week.
Motorists will not be charged on all the local authority run car parks in both town centres on Saturday December 6th, 13th and 20th.
There will be stickers placed on the pay machines in the car parks to advise that parking is free on the day.
Leader of Stafford Borough Council, Aidan Godfrey, said he hoped the move would encourage more people into the town centres to boost local business during the festive season.
There is nearly 3,000 spaces run by the local authority in Stafford, and more than 250 in Stone, where motorists will be able to park for free. And in an extension to previous
Councillor Godfrey said: “I hope this will encourage more people to eat, drink and shop in Stafford and Stone to support our local businesses and traders and make this an even busier time of the year for them.”
Council Deputy Leader, Rob Kenney, who has responsibility for the town centres, said it had been another challenging year for many retailers.
“We all have to support our local businesses, and I hope residents and visitors will take advantage of the free parking offer.”
Local businesses in Stafford have already teamed up with the borough council to put on a Christmas Treasure Trail through the town centre with families asked to find golden crowns in nearly 25 outlets to be in with a chance to win a host of prizes.
