Servicemen and women will parade through the centre of the county town on Sunday (9 November) as part of Stafford’s traditional Remembrance commemorations.

Remembrance Sunday will begin with a short service at around 10.45am followed by wreath laying at the Borough War Memorial in the town’s Victoria Square. Wreaths will then be laid at the County War Memorial before the parade gets underway.

The march will pass through the Market Square where a salute will be taken by the Borough Mayor, Councillor Jenny Barron, civic dignitaries, and members of the armed forces.

Service personnel from regiments based in the town, as well as representatives from The Royal British Legion, and local cadets, are expected to be part of the parade.

The event is held annually on the Sunday nearest to 11 November which marks the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the first World War in 1918.

The following Tuesday (11 November) prayers and a two-minute silence will be held as part of the Act of Remembrance in the Market Square from 10.50am. The short ceremony will include a trumpeter playing the Last Post and Reveille.

Councillor Barron, said she expected many local people and families to join her to mark this important date in our history.

“It is lovely to see our residents come together as a community and a very humbling experience as we remember the sacrifices that many brave men and women gave in conflicts across the world to keep us safe and protect the freedoms that we enjoy today. We must ensure that this is never forgotten.”
